I’m on Edinburgh Uni Tap Team and in February we did 2 competitions –1 in Edinburgh and 1 in Newcastle. It was super exciting because it was the first time tap team had been taken away to competition (a result of us consistently placing at the Edinburgh competition). Competition is so much fun –especially because I’m only in 1 team, once I’ve done that dance the rest of the day is spent watching everyone else dance and not having to get nervous!
Our dance this year was a mash up doll style –yup pretty random. Super fun though. You can see the video from the Edinburgh competition here. We placed 3rd in Edinburgh, although when we got the judges comments back it turned out we were actually joint 2nd. I guess we got the 3rd because we were hosting and Edinburgh was doing so well in the competition (because we are so awesome). Nearly all the teams placed in Edinburgh so we did really well :D.
Entire Edinburgh Team
We had a smaller team in Newcastle and had had a bit more time to improve the dance and make it more doll-like! We came 2nd! It was weird though because the team who won in Edinburgh didn’t place in Newcastle, and the team who won in Newcastle didn’t place in Edinburgh. We placed in both so even though we didn’t win at least we’re consistent!
Our Dance in Pictures
(The same guys head is in all these pictures –super annoying!)
Hopefully there might be a Newcastle video soon –but there’s always the Edinburgh one here.

(Look at all out trophies!)
Edinburgh did amazingly well at Newcastle we placed in pretty much every category getting1sts and 2nds!
We had a night out in Newcastle which really was pretty crazy! Did you know it’s pretty much standard for them to serve triples? That’s just normal there!
Room mates
I am actually riding a mechanical bull!!
I was really awful though, I literally fell off at the first buck
Sunday was spent doing a tiny bit of sightseeing (riverside).
Newcastle is actually really beautiful. I never knew! But I guess my views have mainly been based on Byker Grove and Cheryl Cole. It’s so nice though –it’s got really lovely old buildings and everything. And obviously it’s a good night out too ;) .

It might actually be a month ago today that Laurie (my brother) and Abi (his gf) came up to Edinburgh! I am super slow at updating this blog. We had a fun time though and all went to the zoo on the Sunday. Obviously the pandas were amazing and super cute so I’m going to fill this post up with pictures of them. Yay pandas!
I need to go back soon –I was thinking about how much I wanted to when I woke up. Too much work right now though! Who wants to be a final year? (Probably me as soon as I graduate –I’ve got the fear). Anyone here are some lovely pandas for you :D.

And here’s just 1 that isn’t a panda….

It was a good weekend. I had the Edinburgh dance competition as well on the Saturday, but more on that soon…

I have been super busy these last few weeks. Last weekend I was in Newcastle for a dance competition, the weekend before Ryan was here and the weekend before that my brother Laurie and his gf Abi visited and I had a dance competition here in Edinburgh. Hopefully I will actually write about them soon. But here’s the competition video from Edinburgh….

So Busy! My life is so full right now I’m barely ever at home.
Uni is super intense. I had to an exam in the first week then a 20 minute presentation the next. We have to submit our dissertation project proposal next week and present on it. Then the week after I have a presentation that’s worth 100% of the mark for one module :s
Soon I won’t have any classes left though. It’s going to be so strange when all I have to do is write my dissertation….PANIC! I just wish we would have had our exam results from last semester back already! They are taking a ridiculously long time.
The internship is going well. It’s strange actually having to go to work though. It’s quite interesting but can seem pretty long because I’m not at all used to office work.
Time is going so quickly right now. I can’t believe I’m already 3 weeks in and only have 2 weeks of proper classes left! Those are going to be my last lectures in my 4 year degree. WEIRD! I’m pretty worried about what I’m going to do after. I’ve applied for a few things but I’m not feeling at all confident tbh. Grad schemes seem crazy hard to actually get a place on. And also I still don’t really know what I even want to be doing. It stresses me out that I have no idea where my life is heading, what I’ll be doing or even where I’ll be living. I get the feeling I’m going to end up at home for a while though.
I feel like I haven’t done anything that fun lately. I have just been too busy. Although I have watched all of Downton Abbey. I actually love it and I’m so sad I’ve finished it all now. So excited for the next series though. I also finished reading The Help which was such a good book. And now I can finally watch the film (I like to read a book before I see the film).
Next week Laurie and Abi are coming up, and I have my dance competition and we’re going to the zoo. So hopefully some actually fun things to write about!

Just a little late.
For New year Ryan, Mel, Boz and I went to Edinburgh for a ‘short break’ and had a lovely time. Tess and Ollie came up for new year too :).
We played Rapidough. I was super excited about Rapidough and filled my entire hand luggage with it and no room for anything else. I think it was worth it though. If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically Pictionary but instead of drawing you model playdough. Ended up saying some ridiculous things though. I thought Ryan was making a “hand mushroom” which really turned out to be a palm tree. Fail.
We went to the Edinburgh dungeons. Actually amazing, so much fun! I came out with a sore throat I was screaming so much! Ryan was a terror though trying to freak everyone out in the dark.
On the 30th we went to the Torch lit Parade. It was spectacular (which isn’t a word I ever use but it seems appropriate). Thousands of people walked down the mound, along Princes Street and up Calton Hill carrying flame torches. There were so many people, it looked absolutely amazing! And I’m sure everyone has always wanted to have a flame lit torch. No idea how health and safety ever let it go ahead though. I think if it happened anywhere else it could easily end up in riots. It concluded with the son et lumiere fireworks. At the top of Calton Hill we were surrounded by fireworks as they were going off from all of the monuments. Mel even thought they were the best fireworks she’d ever seen! This was definitely one of the highlights of Hogmanay!
New Year’s Eve was super exciting because Ryan bought me a dress to wear and surprised me with it! It came in a sparkly box and everything. He chose really well too (although I think he had help from a few elves). I am super lucky.
We spent New Year’s eve playing Rapidough whilst drinking £1.99 sparkly chaumet from lidl. Pretty much champagne :D. We then headed down the street to watch the fireworks at the castle. Which were obviously amazing.
We then headed to Hive to party the night away and fun was had by all.
My amazing New Dress
Good times :)
New Year’s Day was spent having a pub lunch and watching Harry Potter. What more could you need?
Happy New Year!

Back in the days when Ryan was here… on Monday, we headed up Calton Hill. I realised that I have never actually been up there in the daylight. I think I’ve only ever been to watch the fireworks. But by day the views were amazing. Here are a few photos for you :).
View of Arthur’s Seat
Calton Hill Monuments
Including ‘Edinburgh’s Disgrace’ -the unfinished columns. I kinda like it how it is though. And it’s the ideal fireworks watching spot.
View to the North
City View
The Palace
I sort of felt like I was spying on the Queen taking this picture. I think it looks like a fairytale palace with Arthur’s seat in the background.
Now Ryan has gone home. And Tess isn’t back till later tonight.
I have been bored!
Also the work is starting to pile up :s. Exams are coming all too soon.
But I do have an advent calendar from Ryan and his parents! I’ve hung it on my wall so it cheers me every time I see it.
I <3 the Christmas season!

Yesterday I had the loveliest day.
Ryan has been up since last week but I’ve been super busy with work so we haven’t got to do anything that exciting.
But he’s going on Monday so I put off my work yesterday.
We started the morning by heading to the farmer’s market for breakfast.
Ryan had a doughnut and I had the hugest, tastiest danish.
So pleased :)
Then we headed to town and actually bought some Christmas presents. Super organised, Ryan was feeling pretty shocked by it.
Edinburgh Castle
It was actually a really nice day –super cold though.
We then had an amazing lunch at wagamamas. It was so ridiculously delicious.
Wagamamas is new here. It’s only been open 5 days so we had to cue for a table. It was definitely worth it though.
Nom nom nom
We spent the afternoon watching bridesmaids then headed to Meadowbank for the fireworks.
They were amazing –I have literally never been to such a long display. Even longer then NYE in Sydney. It was like 25mins of fireworks. And they set it to music, opening with Doctor Who :D. And I’m pretty sure that there was some Disney in there too.
It was magical!
I don’t have any pictures because I was pretty mesmerised and they wouldn’t have turned out too well anyway. It really was amazing though. I wish I could go again.
We ended the night wandering back through town and sharing some fish and chips.
Such a nice day.

October 02, 2011
I have literally never known it to be so warm in Edinburgh.
Not even when I have been here in the actual summer.
The weather was crazy good last week.
Although apparently it’s going to snow this month.
Ryan came to stay last week as well.
So it was filled with good things.
Ryan, Tess and I spent a weirdly sunny afternoon walking on the crags.
My Faves
Too sunny to even look.
I’m glowing pretty luminous white here. That’s how rare the sun is. I spend most of my time here in a coat!
Sunny Edinburgh
The weather was amazing.
Although now it’s back to its normal grey self.
Me and Tess went walking in the Pentlands yesterday and could not see a thing because of the mist.
But I will tell you more about that soon.

I love how there is always something going on when you live in a city.
Right now Edinburgh is a jungle city. There are animals all over the place.
I first saw one when I arrived at the airport. I just thought it was some exciting new art that had arrived since the renovations/ me being in Australia.
But there are monkeys, tigers, elephants, birds and crocodiles all over the place.
This is one of my faves.
Me and Ryan decided to improve it slightly…
Now he is french.
These animals are all in aid of habitat conservation in Asia and are being auctioned to raise money.
“by saving the elephant we save everything else”
This one is my absolute favourite.
He is so cute!
If anyone fancies buying me a baby elephant you can do here. His name is Aloki
It seems that I only take pictures of the ones that look like grass. But there are so many all decorated differently. I even saw one covered in pennies today.
Here’s another grassy one though.
She’s the mummy elephant.
In other news I need a coat.
I tried on this one today but am feeling a bit undecided.
Thoughts?
